BIO

Christine Trainor is a printmaker, painter, papermaker and book artist. She is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (BFA) as well as the Ontario College of Art and Design University (AOCA). As the owner of HazelTree Press & Paper, a private press and handmade paper mill, Trainor's art practice has evolved to encompass intaglio, lithography, letterpress, papermaking, bookbinding, and painting.

In 1998 Trainor moved HazelTree Press & Paper to Prince Edward Island, where she continues to live and work, producing an ever widening range of beautiful handmade papers.

As a painter and printmaker, Trainor is known for her richly coloured landscapes and fluid brushwork. Using landscape and materials as metaphor for human history and experience, she explores the light and atmosphere intrinsic to coastal regions Trainor's work has been exhibited in over 60 solo and group shows. Her work can be found in hundreds of private and public collections and has been the subject of several documentary films. She has completed several public commissions and been the recipient of numerous awards.

Gerald Beaulieu originally comes from Welland, Ontario. He studied art at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, graduating in 1987. In 1988 he moved to Prince Edward Island where he now works and lives. He is primarily a sculptor and installation artist.

He lives and works with Christine Trainor, learning and perfecting the craft of hand paper making, while trapped in a dark damp subterranean locale. He has recently incorporated handmade paper into his sculptural practice as well as producing traditional paper products.

As a volunteer arts advocate He has served on the boards of many local and national arts organizations. In these roles he has negotiated voluntary tariffs and collective agreements, presented at numerous conferences, nominated Governor General award winners and successfully defended artists rights in the Supreme Court of Canada.
